What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is an evidence-based psychological practice that uses relaxation and increased internal focus, to help aid with a wide range of mental and physical health conditions.

Hypnotherapy is considered a complementary therapy, just like counselling, which means it can be prescribed by other practitioners, such as your GP, to support different kinds of therapies.

You can read more and see the Royal College of Psychiatrists, American Psychological Association, British Psychological Society and University College London Hospitals' stance on hypnotherapy.

For people who speak Italian, this link offers an exhaustive overview.

What is hypnosis?

The general idea of hypnosis is that of mind control, and it couldn't be far from any kind of therapeutic application!

Hypnotherapy is a state of focused awareness, where you remain fully in charge. Its aim is to put you in charge of your brain, connect you to your goals, helping you to remove the noise and barriers that prevent you from reaching them.

It can help you achieve a state of profound relaxation and heightened consciousness, a deep mindful concentration mode, in which through guided visualisations and metaphors can facilitate you in establishing a true connection with your mind, reassign your priorities, rewrite unwanted patterns, and assert your own goals.

What happens during a session?

Before the first session, you will be invited to a free 15-minute discovery call to understand if I’m the right practitioner to support you. You will be sent a questionnaire, which will help to clear up all the practicalities, and give you a chance to start reflecting on what you wish to achieve from the intervention.

In our first session, our Initial Consultation, we will pick up from there, discuss your goals and review any relevant information you might have shared. You will also be offered a Progressive Muscle Relaxation practice.

With the following sessions, we’ll start hypnotherapy: you will be led into a state of deep relaxation, internal focus and attention. When I see you are truly achieving this state of relaxed awareness, I will then use metaphors and guided visualisations to help you towards your goals, as agreed.

I will repeat the agreed suggestion a few times, to have it gently sink into your mind and then gradually bring you out of your deeply relaxed focused-awarness state.

For many people, this is a lovely experience, and they feel energised and refreshed upon exiting the hypnotic state.

Keep in mind that you are free and fully able to break this state whenever you like. It is your mind, and you are in full control of it. I am with you as your trained facilitator and there to support you at any stage.

What happens if I fall asleep?

Should you feel so relaxed to fall asleep it won’t be the end of the world – the suggestions meant to be accepted by your subconscious will still gently sink in, and anything that doesn’t truly align with your inner goals and purpose refused – just like if you were awake.

However, sleeping is not the objective of the session – so, if you know you had a long day you can let me know before we start the induction and we can work out a suitable position to help you stay in a state of relaxed awareness.
